Introduction
System Center Configuration Manager (Current Branch) version 1802 was released yesterday. You can read the official announcement here and for a detailed list of what’s new, please see the following blog post. I blogged about how you can upgrade to 1802 here.
Starting in Configuration Manager version 1802, client installation is longer is installing Microsoft Silverlight.
What is Microsoft Silverlight ?
Microsoft Silverlight was Microsoft’s attempt to combat Adobe flash, and was equally irritating. Microsoft even explained what it is here:
“Microsoft Silverlight is a powerful tool for creating and delivering rich Internet applications and media experiences on the Web. Silverlight 5 builds on the foundation of Silverlight 4 for building business applications and premium media experiences. Silverlight 5 introduces more than 40 new features, including dramatic video quality and performance improvements as well as features that improve developer productivity.”

Thankfully, times move on.
Configuration Manager 1802 no longer installs Silverlight by default (normally included with the Configuration Manager client installation).
- Starting in this release, Silverlight is no longer installed on client devices automatically.
- Required to support the Application Catalog website user experience.
- Starting in Configuration Manager 1802, Silverlight is no longer installed automatically.
